Our Story

THE BEGINNING

The church was established in September 1957 by Reverend Clyde Self. The first services took place in the home of one of the founding members, Timothy Lovell. Shortly thereafter, a permanent location was secured at 3001 West 70th Street in the Sunset Acres neighborhood. Originally named Cullen Haymon Memorial United Pentecostal Church, it was later renamed Sunset Acres United Pentecostal Church.

GROWTH AND STABILITY

Reverend Clyde Self faithfully led the church for over 30 years. Before his retirement, he passed the mantle to Reverend Kent Greer, who continues to serve as pastor more than three decades later. Remarkably, the church has been shepherded by only two pastors over the past 65 years—a true rarity and a testament to God’s faithfulness and their enduring leadership.

In 1999, construction began on the church’s current campus at 3001 Meriwether Road in south Shreveport. Today, the church continues to thrive under the dedicated leadership of Pastor Kent Greer and First Lady Greer.
